Wednesday 9th September.
We needed to vacate Sable no later than 6.30am.
Bedding repacked and beds folded back into the wall we took one last walk around the compound.

We arrived at Phalaborwa reception to hand in the bedding packs at 7.30.
A gem of a find was the Hlanganani Arts & Crafts situated next to SanParks reception.
A great cup of coffee available as well as toasted sandwiches and cold drinks.
There is a variety of local art and craft for sale as well.
Worth a visit on your way through this gate

We couldn’t leave Phala without another quick meet up…….you guessed…Scipio & Scorpion.
Sightings were plentiful on the 52k drive to Shimuwini and included our second snake in 2 days……a striped skaapsteker.
Shimuwini was perfect.
No phone and no electric point to use
Our bungalow was in the corner with a great view of the river.
The hide was the other end of the camp.
We sat at the front and watched the procession of animals to the water.
The hippos and crocs were joined at various stages by elephants, giraffe, waterbuck, fish eagle & heron.

White fronted bee eater
After dark we had an ellie at the side fence and a continuous serenade from the hippos.
